Dr. Armen Der Kiureghian
Founding Dean (1991-2007)

Professor of Civil Engineering and holder of the Taisei Chair in Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley, Dr. Der Kiureghian’s area of teaching and research is in risk and reliability, stochastic dynamics and earthquake engineering.

He is a recipient of the American Society of Civil Engineers’ W.L. Huber research prize and the Alfred M. Freudenthal medal. He was honored as Distinguished Alumnus of Tehran University, Iran, and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is a member of both the National Academy of Engineering and the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia. He received the Movses Khorenatsi medal from the Government of Armenia in 2001.

Dr. Barry Levine
Founding Director, Computer and Information Science Program (2001-2010)

Dr. Levine is a Professor and graduate coordinator of the Department of Computer Science at San Francisco State University.

He has consulted for various organizations, including the World Bank, USAID, the U.S. Government and in private industry. His interests include programming language design, compiler construction, functional programming, object – oriented programming and asynchronous distance learning. He has traveled and lectured worldwide in countries including Kenya, China, Jordan and Armenia.
