Become a Supervisor/Reviewer

The American University of Armenia (AUA), Zaven P. and Sonia Akian College of Science and Engineering (CSE) BS in Data Science program is inviting professionals with expertise in data science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence to act as Capstone Supervisors and Reviewers for our students’ Capstone projects.

The capstone project in the BS in Data Science program is of considerable significance for undergraduate students, offering them a chance to bridge the gap between theoretical learning and practical real-world application. The capstone project is a collaborative effort involving a student(s), supervisor, and reviewer. The capstone supervisor guides the entire thesis process, from pre-proposal research to post-proposal activities. The reviewer is responsible for evaluating and providing feedback for the final capstone project.

To qualify as a Capstone Supervisor, candidates should hold at least a Master’s degree in the relevant field and possess at least 5 years of working experience in the relevant field. Supervisors are awarded modest remuneration in recognition of their efforts and expertise.

What you can gain from the Capstone project as a Supervisor:

  • By becoming a supervisor, you contribute to the development of professionals who are not only well-versed in theory but also adept at applying that knowledge in the workplace.
  • Engaging with capstone projects allows you to identify and potentially recruit top talent.
  • It is an avenue for continuous professional development.
  • You can receive useful outputs in the form of a final Capstone product, e.g., reports, policy briefs, infographics, business models, prototypes, etc.
  • You can test or use certain technologies, software, tools, methods, or equipment that are currently relevant.
  • Capstone projects often require thorough research, helping supervisors stay updated on the latest industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices.

What you can gain from the Capstone project as a reviewer:

  • Capstone projects often address real-world problems or challenges, providing industry reviewers with exposure to emerging trends and technologies within their industry.
  • Connect with academia by identifying potential talents.
  • Constructive feedback from reviewers can influence the development of industry standards. They may identify areas where academic projects align with or deviate from established practices, contributing to ongoing discussions about best practices.

The time commitment for both the supervisor and reviewer roles varies, with the supervisor typically dedicating a few hours per week throughout the capstone project period, which typically lasts for 5 months. The reviewer’s commitment often involves several hours of work after the final submission of the project.
